UPDATE: 3rd June 2023

Dear members,

We are now 1 month into the 3 month trial of the playing rights and timesheet structure recommended by the Review Panel (copy available below)

The mostly brilliant weather in May has provided an excellent opportunity to test timesheet capacity. It is also pleasing and somewhat reassuring that the trial period is covering the months of minimum daylight hours to further increase our confidence in the trial outcomes.

Pleasingly, the timesheets are coping very well with demand. There has been no-one on the waitlist or unable to get a game on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays in May. There have been a few people waitlisted on Monday and Tuesday where they have wanted to play at a particular time of day.  Wednesdays for the month averaged 45.8 empty slots available each week (42.25 if the Wednesday 17th May (60 empty spots) with a few showers is excluded).

It is also noted that the reserved lines for late bookings by 7 day members on Tuesdays and Wednesdays have been largely unused (one slot was booked in the first week of May).

Attached is a summary table of the Daily Competitions and Tee Options available under the trial.  As well as the popular gender competitions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there are many other times available for all to enjoy a choice of competition or social golf from various tees.

UPDATE: 20th May 2023

Dear fellow Members,

You may have noticed some changes to the timesheets structures since the 1st May 2023.

Under the current playing rights trial (copy linked below), other than the women’s competition on Tuesdays and the men’s competition on Wednesdays, the timesheets across the week are now gender neutral and include a larger number of times that each member is eligible to book into.

The Monday, Thursday and Friday timesheets have been simplified to give broader access to members across all time slots. There is more choice to play optional competition or social golf and also more optionality to choose which tee to play from on these days. 7 day members have exclusive access to the timesheets on Saturdays and to some reserved times for last minute bookings within the Tuesday and Wednesday competitions. Both 7 Day and 5 Day members have access to 120+ additional playing spots available due to the removal of gender restrictions across Monday, Thursday & Friday.

The Club began this 3 month trial from the 1st May which was recommended by the Review Panel and approved by the Board.  As the trial progresses the timesheets are being monitored to provide feedback and statistics for assessment of the trial.

Of particular interest to date, the access to the Wednesday field has seen little impact with 40-60 playing spots available each Wednesday, and all other days coping well with demand.

Whilst the trial period is not yet complete (and may end prematurely subject to EGM 6th June), on outcomes to date the structure has addressed any concern for discrimination within classes of  membership without unreasonably adversely affecting any category and has also maintained a single traditional men’s and women’s competition day each week.

Thank you to those who have provided written support for these changes and to those who have given alternative feedback.

Sincerely

Alison Andrews
