Since the Golf Shop storage area in early August 2022 was affected by a fire emanating from a lithium battery and charger, the Club and Members have undertaken the tedious process of compiling claim information and submitting via the Clubs insurer for assessment.
The claim components whilst all essentially one claim, can best be reported as having been broken down into:
- Members equipment claims
- Bag Storage area claims
- Repair area claims
- General Clubhouse area claims
- Business interruption claims
- Golf Retail area claims
As it now stands we can update on the following per component.
- Members equipment claims
Close to $300k of members equipment claims have been submitted and are now awaiting the assessors outcome on the claimed amounts. Without guarantee an outcome on this component is expected by the Club in coming week or two with funds upon approval being released for dispersion if approved.
- Bag Storage area claims
Approval has been given to commence restoration of electrical services and restoration of the golf bag and buggy storage area. This work is scheduled for December. Upon resumption of storage services a credit will be issued for the period of lost service to those members who have paid whilst the service has not been provided.
- Repair area claims
Approval has been given to commence restoration of the repair area. This work is scheduled for December. This will enable the Golf Shop staff to resume repair services for golf equipment such as re-grips, shaft repairs and loft and lie adjustments.
- General Clubhouse area claims
Most works to general Clubhouse areas have been completed. This included the cleaning phase of upstairs and downstairs lounge areas and members locker rooms, including internal areas of member lockers.
- Business interruption claims
The Club will progress claim on lost income from bag storage (credit value issued to members) and may seek recourse on lost retail sales where a net loss is evident.
- Golf Retail area claims
The extent of works to the Golf Retail area to resume service is yet to be finalised, subject to assessment. The works may include carpet replacement and either patch/paint of damaged ceilings or replacement. Stock loss from the claim has been quantified and items to be collected prior to resumption of services.
To all members affected we understand and sympathise with the frustration the unpredictable event has caused and we look forward to bringing the matter to a close with resumption of storage services, retail amenity and replacement or refund on replaced equipment.
Of particular note, thankyou to the administration team, for their handling of the many claim enquiries submitted and fielded and to the Golf Shop staff for their tenacity to continue operations from the makeshift arrangements.
Members with individual claims submitted will be contacted directly upon advancement in position.
PREVIOUS ON TOPIC:
Dear Members,
Unfortunately on the 9th August 2022 the Club suffered a fire in the Golf Bag and Buggy storage area adjacent to the Pro Shop.
At approx. 11:45pm it appears a charger or battery ignited and caused damage within the golf storage, repair and shop area.
Fortunately the Clubhouse fire detection system triggered and Fire Services were able to attend promptly and extinguish the fire.
No persons were injured as a result of the Fire.
The smoke and soot from the fire subsequently entered the majority of the Clubhouse including mechanical ventilations systems.
The fire generated significant smoke which filtered through the building and has necessitated the need to close sections of the Clubhouse for food and beverage services until a post fire clean may be completed.
The Club will also require a risk assessment from a suitably qualified assessor prior to the site of the Fire being reoccupied.
The Club’s Insurance provider has been notified of the fire and an assessor has been on site (11th August).
The Pro Shop has been operating an interim player registration desk from the Starters Hut, it is planned to operate an interim registration and retail area from the Board Room from the week of Monday 29th August 2022.
Members with golf bags, buggies and batteries in storage were requested to attend the Club to remove all items from storage to enable remediation to the damaged areas. Many of the Clubs and Bags collected were damaged, and/or covered in residue from the fire (soot). Further instruction from the assessor as to how Members claims for damaged items has been received and details are following this notice.
An interim storage alternative is being explored however may not eventuate due to provision of security and remoteness from main building (i.e. carpark) not enabling adequate fire coverage (un-alarmed).
We appreciate the assistance of members to date whilst normal storage, locker, restroom and player registration services have been impacted.
We expect use of the Men’s locker room restroom areas to be available in coming week.
This incident has placed significant disruption to the operation of the Golf Services and to Members who normally are able to keep their equipment in the storage areas. We look forward to working in co-operation with affected Members to respond and recover.
As additional information is received this post will be updated.
Sincerely,
Daniel Constable
GENERAL MANAGER
CLAIM INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS WITH EQUIPMENT IN BAG or BUGGY STORAGE
Dear Member (with items in Bag Storage),
As you may be aware, the Club had a fire on the 9th August 2022 causing damage to the property including members equipment that was stored at the Club.
Fortunately, the damage was limited, and the Club has been able to continue to provide most services to its members.
The club has insurance cover and we have lodged a claim with our Insurer which is being assessed. Part of that assessment is the claim for damage to Members Equipment stored at the Premises at the time of the fire. If you have already removed your property from the Club after the fire, then you would have signed a document acknowledging same and noting whether your property is damaged or not.
We need to ensure that the claim process for establishing the extent of damage to your equipment is a smooth process. To assist us in this regard we will require your assistance to present to us your supported claim, much like you would do if you were claiming these from your own Insurer.
We therefore request that each member collate the information below, then copy and paste the body and send it in one (1) email if possible with the following:
NOTE: An email with the following information will be circulated to those members who has items in storage at the time of the fire.
Subject Line: “Member Number – Full Name – Damage to Members Equipment”
To: reception@manly.miclub.com.au.
The information that our Insurance company has requested is set out below:
- Full Name and Member Number
- Please indicate Yes or No whether you have your own personal insurance cover for the your equipment that was damaged.
- Photos of the Damaged Equipment to verify:
- Property being claimed – including brand names and list of each Club being claimed and or item
i. Also show signs of soot, oxidisation or rust where possible. - Receipt of original purchase for larger items (clubs and bag)
- Quotation(s) for replacement of damaged items
- Summary within email of Total items damaged and cost to replace as per quotations, i.e:

Other accessories
- If you are interested in retaining the damaged items, what $ value would you be willing to offer as salvage to retain these?
If you are not interested in retaining any of the damaged property, please state this as the Insurer is then entitled to retain ownership of the damaged goods if they pay out replacement.
